Mount Pleasant, SC – Mac Deford, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in South Carolina’s First Congressional District, expresses profound concern and disappointment over Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s endorsement of Donald Trump for President. Deford stated, “This endorsement reminds us again about what Nancy Mace values the most–the spotlight and media attention–and not the people of the Lowcountry or the principles of our nation.”
Just days after January 6th, 2021, Nancy Mace stated, “I believe we need to hold the President accountable. I hold him accountable for the events that transpired for the attack on our Capitol.” In yet another television interview, Nancy Mace condemned Trump's involvement in the day's incidents, asserting that his office achievements were erased in mere hours. In response, Trump labeled Mace as "an absolutely terrible candidate.”
Deford noted yet another inconsistent stance by Mace: “In the wake of January 6, 2021, Mace deemed to understand the gravity of Trump’s actions, but her endorsement for his 2024 presidential bid is a complete flip-flop. It’s another example of how Mace is committed to politics over principles.”
Deford stated, “Beyond Trump’s legal issues, including two impeachments, being found liable by a jury for sexual abuse, a company found to be engaged in fraudulent business practices, nearly one hundred criminal charges, and a judicial finding of having engaged in insurrection, Trump has told the American people he will be a dictator. That alone should send shivers down the spine of every American regardless of political beliefs.”
In a forceful critique of Mace’s endorsement, Deford accused her of placing personal ambition, fame, and political aspirations above integrity and principled leadership. Deford stated, “In these pivotal times, South Carolina’s First Congressional District desperately needs leaders rooted in unwavering principles, who prioritize the safety and well-being of Americans, and uphold democracy and the rule of law.
