Issues

My agenda reflects the priorities I’ve heard in conversations across the Lowcountry: strengthening infrastructure, protecting our coast, expanding access to housing and health care, and making sure federal programs work for the people who rely on them.

Infrastructure and Flood Mitigation
Mac knows that crumbling roads, unsafe bridges, and chronic flooding are daily concerns for communities across the Lowcountry. In Congress, he’ll fight for federal investments to modernize our roads and bridges, improve pedestrian access, and upgrade critical stormwater systems. He’ll also push for smart, resilient infrastructure to protect our homes and businesses from rising seas and frequent flooding.
Protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
Mac will fight any attempt to cut or privatize Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. These programs are lifelines for seniors, people with disabilities, and working families. Mac opposes schemes to raise the slash benefits or shift costs onto those who can least afford it. Instead, he’ll work to strengthen and preserve these programs for the next generation—because no one who has paid into the system their entire life should be told it’s no longer there for them.
Housing
Mac understands that access to safe, affordable housing is foundational to family well-being and community stability. He supports increasing the supply of affordable housing, expanding assistance for renters and first-time homebuyers, and investing in programs that reduce homelessness and help people transition to permanent housing.
Economic Policy and Tariffs
Mac will fight for fair trade policies and against tariffs that punish South Carolina consumers and businesses. He supports a strong, competitive manufacturing sector, targeted investments in high-growth industries, and ensuring South Carolina workers can compete globally without being undercut by unfair foreign subsidies.
Military and Veterans
As a Coast Guard veteran, Mac understands the sacrifices made by our service members and their families. He’ll advocate for fully funding the VA, expanding access to mental health care, and ensuring that no veteran waits months for the benefits they’ve earned. Mac will also fight for improved housing and job training for transitioning service members, and support investments that strengthen South Carolina’s military installations and defense communities.
Environment and Clean Waterways
Mac will protect South Carolina’s rivers, coasts, and drinking water by holding polluters accountable and expanding access to federal clean water funds. He supports investment in clean energy jobs and sustainable infrastructure, with a focus on making our communities more resilient in the face of extreme weather.
Tax Reform
Mac believes in a tax system that rewards hard work and ensures the wealthiest pay their fair share. He supports reversing tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy and corporations, and instead cutting taxes for working and middle-class families. He’ll fight for policies that lift up small businesses and keep South Carolina competitive.
Upholding Our Institutions and the Rule of Law
Mac knows that faith in our democracy is under threat. He will defend the Constitution, support common-sense ethics reforms, and ensure that no one—no matter how powerful—is above the law. He supports nonpartisan election administration and fair, secure access to the ballot box.
Immigration
Mac supports comprehensive immigration reform that strengthens border security while creating a fair path to citizenship for DREAMers and long-time undocumented residents. He believes we must modernize the immigration system to reflect our values and the needs of our economy, including protections for migrant farm workers and essential laborers.
Protecting Women’s Bodily Autonomy
Mac believes that every woman should have the freedom to make her own health care decisions without interference from politicians. He supports codifying Roe v. Wade into federal law and protecting access to contraception, IVF, and other essential health services.
Banning Stock Trading in Congress
Mac believes public service should never be about personal profit. Too many politicians have used their positions and access to inside information to enrich themselves while families across the Lowcountry are just trying to get by. That’s why Mac supports a full ban on members of Congress and their families trading individual stocks. Instead, lawmakers should be required to put their assets in blind trusts—with no loopholes—so their decisions are made in the public’s interest, not their own. It’s a simple, common-sense step to restore trust in government and ensure Congress works for the people—not for themselves.
Combatting Corruption in Government
Public service should be about serving the people, not personal enrichment. Too often, politicians treat elected office as a pathway to wealth and influence instead of a responsibility to the public. The recent reports of Donald Trump accepting a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar, which experts called the very definition of corruption, show how dangerous unchecked influence can be. When leaders blur the line between personal business interests and government service, the American people are the ones who lose.

Mac believes it is time to put an end to that culture once and for all. He will fight for strict rules that prevent federal officials from using their office for financial gain, require true blind trusts without loopholes, and demand full transparency so voters always know who their leaders are working for. Corruption in any form undermines democracy, and Mac will work to ensure government is accountable only to the people, never to foreign powers, lobbyists, or insiders.
Voting Rights
The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, and it must be protected and expanded—not restricted. Too many politicians have worked to make it harder for people to cast their ballot, whether through unnecessary barriers, long wait times, or gerrymandering that rigs the system before voters even have a chance to be heard. I believe every eligible voter should have fair, equal, and convenient access to the ballot box. That means protecting early voting and mail-in voting, modernizing voter registration, ensuring accessible polling places, and ending racial gerrymandering once and for all. In Congress, I will fight to abolish gerrymandering altogether and restore the Voting Rights Act, because our democracy works best when voters choose their leaders—not the other way around.
Gun Safety
I believe in protecting the Second Amendment while also enacting common sense gun legislation to keep our communities safe. Responsible gun ownership is part of our country’s fabric, but the reality is that senseless killings from gun violence have no place in America. Too many families have been torn apart, and too many children live with the fear that their classroom could be next.

We can honor the rights of law-abiding gun owners while also taking meaningful steps to reduce gun violence. That means strengthening background checks, closing dangerous loopholes, and ensuring that firearms do not end up in the hands of those who pose a risk to themselves or others. It means treating gun violence as the public health crisis it is.

American deserves to walk through their community without the fear of being shot. Protecting lives and protecting rights are not mutually exclusive. We can and must do both.
Supporting Public Education
Every child deserves access to a world class education, no matter their zip code or family’s income. Strong public schools are the foundation of opportunity, preparing the next generation not just for good jobs but for citizenship, service, and leadership. Unfortunately, too many politicians treat public education as a bargaining chip, undercutting teachers, slashing funding, and leaving students behind. That is not just short sighted, it is a betrayal of our future.

Mac believes public education is one of America’s greatest equalizers and must be defended and strengthened. He will fight to ensure teachers are paid fairly, classrooms are properly funded, and every child, whether in Charleston, Beaufort, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, or Jasper, has the resources they need to succeed. That includes making higher education and trade schools more affordable, so young people can pursue the path that fits their skills and ambitions. Investing in our schools is investing in the economic strength and civic health of our country, because strong schools build a stronger America.
